Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to success in mainstream music failed, two different record labels signing her and subsequently dropping her before any material was released. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which garnered modest attention in 2007 because of its humorous title. Perry made more of a splash several months later with the single "I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a sharp electro-pop beat. The track quickly caused debate as some critics accused its promotion of same-sex relationships and others charged that the explicit scenario it depicted catered to male fantasies of sexuality among females. However, the mix of sensuality and polished music contributed to the fact that I Kissed a Girl become the number one song in multiple countries powering the album sales of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold's sharp and energetic second single also proved popular. The album that Perry composed in large part sold more than three million copies.
